Fall Gracefully Into October
Happy Mindful Monday! October is officially one of my most favorite months of the year. It's not just because it's my birthday month, but it is also a beautiful bridge between summer and fall. It's about ALL things pumpkin, Halloween, the beginning of sweater weather, changing trees and sublimely beautiful weather. (May is my other favorite time of year, and second favorite month for the same reasons - bridge between Spring and Summer!).
While this is my favorite time of year, but it is also a time of great transition. When the leaves start changing colors and we see the transformation happening all around us from summer into fall, we also start to feel a variety of different things. For me, this time of year often brings about some feelings of being unsettled and anxious.
- In Ayurveda (yoga's sister science), it's also Vata Season, which can cause some of this fear, anxiety and feeling not grounded.
-In Chinese Medicine, this time of year is associated with the metal element, and the lungs and large intestine.
For these reasons (informed by both Ayurveda and Chinese Medicine), it is especially important during this time of year to tap into the resources that provide some comfort and nurturing to those weary, restless souls. This could look like a Warm Sweater, Warm Tea, Extended Exhales, Slow Somatic Movement, Journaling, Walking Outdoors in Nature, Talking to a friend, or Counselor/Therapist. What else do you do to work through this time of year?
